Dear Families,
Since 1994 I have been creating exciting enrichment activities for children in both the camp setting and as a public school educator. Discover Camp was born out of my love of teaching science, technologies and hobbies. Discover Camp originally started as a hands-on hobby camp but since has expanded to provide a wide variety of enriching activities for boys and girls. My philosophies on the importance of hands-on activities in education have not wavered. As a matter a fact I think it is even more important than ever to introduce your children to interactive, stimulating, hands-on experiences since unfortunately, our state is burdening our public schools with so many standardized tests.
Discover Camp was built upon my love of various hobbies and over the last ten years I have built close relationships with the biggest names in the hobby industry like Tamiya, Kyosho, Estes, Apogee, Trinity, Team Associated, HPI and many others. These relationships allow me to research new products throughout the year to improve existing programs and develop new ones. We are the only camp in the United States that works directly with these hobby manufacturers. This gives us the unique ability to customize and constantly improve our programs.
I am pleased that Holy Rosary School has embraced the program and welcomed us back to their school. This year we will be utilizing the entire facility (16 classrooms, the gymnasium and cafeteria). The school is located in quiet Hawthorne, NY, less than a minute from the Sprain Brook, Taconic and Bronx River Parkways and just 5 minutes north of White Plains. The grounds are perfect for our programs and the air conditioned facility offers an escape from the summer heat.
Discover Camp has been recognized by SMART Technologies, the makers of SMART Boards, as a "promising, innovative program" and has granted us SMART Boards for our classrooms. Besides the majority of our instructors being NYS certified teachers six of them are recognized as SMART Exemplary Educators. Training teachers in the effective utilization of Smart Boards is one of the main focuses of my full time role as the Technology Integration Specialist for Eastchester Schools.
